A Special Shinto Worship Experience at the Spiritual Gateway to Kumano

Take part in a special formal worship and prayer ceremony at Tokei-jinja Shrine, located in Tanabe City, one of the principal gateways to the Kumano Kodo.
After your guide introduces the history of the shrine and the spiritual traditions of Kumano, you will participate in a formal Shinto purification and prayer ceremony led by a Shinto priest, an experience not available through an ordinary shrine visit.
This unique program is especially recommended for those who wish to gain a deeper understanding of Kumano’s spiritual culture and sacred traditions.

14:15 – Meet at the Tanabe Tourist Information Center(next to JR Kii-Tanabe Station) The Tourist Information Center is located on the right-hand side when facing JR Kii-Tanabe Station.
14:30 or 15:00 – Shinto purification ceremony and prayer service at Tokei-jinja Shrine
Tour ends at the Tanabe Tourist Information Center at approximately 16:00 or 16:30 ※After the prayer service, if time permits and upon request, guests may enjoy a short walk around central Tanabe, including Ogigahama Beach.
