Wakayama Local Guide Association
Wakayama Local Guide Association is a professional guide organization offering guided experiences along the Kumano Kodo and throughout Wakayama Prefecture.
Its members include licensed Koya Kumano Regional Interpreter Guides and National Government Licensed Guide Interpreters with extensive knowledge of the region. In addition to the major pilgrimage routes of the Kumano Kodo, guides introduce visitors to destinations throughout Wakayama, including Koyasan, Shirahama, Wakayama City, Yuasa and Kushimoto.
At the heart of the association is a commitment to sharing Wakayama through the eyes and voices of people who know the region firsthand. On the Kumano Kodo, your guide will take you beyond simply walking the trail, revealing the history of Kumano worship, centuries old pilgrimage traditions, local legends, nature, culture and stories that can easily be missed when traveling independently.
The association also places a strong emphasis on guide training and professional development, providing its own training programs to continually improve the knowledge and guiding skills of its members and maintain a consistent standard of service.
Whether you are walking the Kumano Kodo for the first time or looking to gain a deeper understanding of Kumano's history, culture, and spiritual heritage, exploring with a knowledgeable local guide can transform the trail from a beautiful walk into a far more meaningful journey.
